As YWAM Mazatlan we believe in evangelism, training, and mercy ministries. Throughout the year YWAM Mazatlan reaches out to surrounding communities to reach people through mercy ministries. Our heart is to use mercy ministry as one way to reach others.
The ministry of YWAM Ships recently put on a Medical Brigade in a nearby community called Flores Magón. We invited local and international medical professionals including nurses, dentists, doctors, physiotherapists, and hairstylists.
Here is a story of a Discipleship Training School (DTS) student that served alongside the medical professionals at this medical brigade. It's a story of someone who was ready to share the love of Jesus through giving a simple pair of glasses.
"All glory to God! During a two day medical outreach, 25 people committed their lives to Jesus. It's important to know when we have a heart for the lost. When we realize that this mission is for God, we can align ourselves with His heart completely in intercession and see the fruit of that change peoples lives forever.
We started with a station testing people for glasses. We were helping to work the table to give the correct prescription to patients.
As people arrived we would give them a pair of glasses and put an open bible in front of them as they sat down. I had them try on different pairs of glasses until they could see the words on the page clearly. We had the bible open to Psalms 23, which says... 'The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.' Psalms 23:1-3 NIV
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Psalms 23:1-3
I would read this passage to them and get them to follow along. This gave an opportunity to speak with them, ask them questions, and share about Christ. I would then ask them if they wanted to receive Jesus into their hearts. It was such a powerful time to pray with them as they accepted Him.
After two days and many glasses given, their were 25 men and women with a new glasses and God in their hearts. It was a beautiful time and a privilege to use simple glasses and sight as a tool to share the love of Jesus. All glory to God!"
Glasses are such an easy tool. Sometimes we complicate it too much and question what I have to give or share with others. But with a pair of glasses 25 people now have the eyes to read and the heart to accept what they read. A beautiful testimony of what God is doing through YWAM Ships here in Mazatlan.
