Come, let us adore Him! Or am I too busy?

Come, let us adore Him!

Traveling during the Christmas season can be a little risky when considering the weather. You make plans to drive to visit family, pack the car, take the dogs to the kennel, and the kids are excited to see their grandparents. You receive a text from your concerned father that the roads look bad, and he suggests you should wait out the storm. The kids are restless, and your husband is packing last minute packages for you in the bedroom. The tears begin to roll down your cheeks because you miss your parents, and just want to spend the holidays with family. You pray for the weather to clear so you can proceed with your plans, and ask God to keep your family safe.

This year has brought a lot of struggles; your brother battled cancer and fought for his life. Your sister is already there with her family, and she is busy helping Mom with the cooking. Why can’t we live closer to my parents? Your sister doesn’t realize how lucky she is to live so close, and is mad that she has to do all the preparations. She would never tell you that, but you see it in her face when she welcomes you home. You just want to cuddle up to a warm fire and sit with your Dad while he reads the Christmas story. It brings back such beautiful memories of the holidays; drinking hot cocoa with marshmallows, baking cookies with Grandma, and playing in the snow with your cousins. When did life get so busy?

We see this story in Luke chapter 10, Martha was distracted with final preparations to welcome Jesus into their home, and was upset with her sister, Mary, who just wanted to spend time with Him. “Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home.  She had a sister called Mary, who was seated at the Lord’s feet, listening to His word. But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me.” But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things;  but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:38-42 NASB

We all experience the chaos the Christmas season can bring, and every year we have the same response, next year will be different. We dream of new traditions that make life simpler, and we desire to spend more time with the ones we love. Take time to sit with your family and celebrate what God has done in your life this year; sing some Christmas carols, and adore Him.
