YWAM Mazatlan

A Student's Perspective of the September DTS

jaelyn-for-blog3The past few months of my life have been some of the greatest in my life and I owe that to YWAM Mazatlan, but most importantly God. I have found friends, mentors, brothers, sisters and ultimately family here within YWAM Mazatlan and I couldn’t be happier with how my experience here has been.

The three different teams each had incredible experiences both away on outreach, as well as when we arrived back here in Mazatlan, applying our understanding and knowledge of God we had gained during lecture phase, into real, spiritual situations. Our outreach component here in Mazatlan was fantastic, as we started off by diving into an action packed week of Carnaval, where many lives were touched and changed and where we learned more about God and ourselves. The week after Carnaval was spent serving kids in the surrounding neighborhood with a sports camp. The sports camp was an amazing opportunity for us all and we all grew and experienced many challenges that week, but left feeling full and happy to have talked with, shared the gospel with and loved on so many youth.

To make our Outreach, while back in Mazatlan, even better, we split our DTS into two teams. In these teams we had the incredible experience of building homes for two families in need, in the community called “Loma Bonita”. That experience was physically, emotionally and spiritually draining, yet refreshing, exciting and filling all at the same time. We not only impacted the families with the key to their new home, but with prayer, encouragement, fellowship and God’s love and blessing for their lives. There were many tears shed at the end of the week during the beautiful dedications and I know our prayers will continue to be poured out towards the families that we built for.

Overall I am so blessed have been a part of the September 2012-13 DTS and cannot believe it is already coming to an end this Friday March the 8th! I know it will be hard to leave not only the friends I made here, but also the family we have become. I will thank God over and over for my experience here at YWAM Mazatlan and I know my fellow students will as well. Truly and deeply thank you YWAM Mazatlan and God for your love, support and guidance these past 6 months!
